Visit a Lighthouse
No trip to Door County is complete without visiting one of its historic lighthouses. Our favorite is Cana Island Lighthouse, where you can walk (or ride the tractor shuttle when the water is high) across the causeway and climb to the top for incredible panoramic views of Lake Michigan.
Get on the Water
Some of the best views of Door County are from the water. Our recommendation is to book a sunset music boat cruise and enjoy live music, breathtaking scenery, and a colorful sunset that you’ll remember long after your vacation ends.
Climb Eagle Tower
Located in Peninsula State Park, Eagle Tower offers one of the best views in Door County. The accessible observation tower and elevated boardwalk make it easy for visitors of all ages and abilities to enjoy sweeping views of Green Bay, the surrounding forests, and nearby islands.
Stargaze at Newport State Park
As Wisconsin’s only International Dark Sky Park, Newport State Park is one of the best places in the Midwest to experience a truly star-filled sky. On a clear night, bring a blanket, look up, and enjoy the Milky Way, countless stars, and maybe even a meteor or two.
Add Your Name to Anderson Dock
Leave your mark—literally! The historic Anderson Dock in Ephraim has become famous for the colorful names and messages visitors have added over the years. It’s a fun Door County tradition and a great photo stop

Skip Stones at Pebble Beach
You won’t find sand at Pebble Beach! As a result of millions of years of ancient geological shifts, glacial activity, and constant wave tumbling the beach is entirely made up of smooth stones – perfect for skipping across the beautiful water. It’s a simple tradition that never gets old and a favorite activity for both kids and adults.

Watch a Waterfront Sunset
Door County sunsets are legendary. One of our favorite places to experience one is while enjoying dinner at The Shoreline. Great food, beautiful views, and the sun dipping below the horizon make for an unforgettable evening.
Explore Cave Point County Park
Known for its dramatic limestone cliffs, crystal-clear water, and wave-carved caves, Cave Point County Park is one of the peninsula’s most photographed destinations. Walk the scenic trails, listen to the crashing waves, and don’t forget your camera.
Drive the Curvy Road
One of Door County’s most iconic drives leads to the Washington Island Ferry. The curvy road lined with towering trees is especially beautiful in the fall, but it’s worth the drive any time of year.
Try All Things Cherry
Door County is famous for its cherries, so don’t leave without sampling a few local favorites. Cherry pie, cherry wine, cherry salsa, cherry jam, chocolate-covered cherries, and even cherry cider are just the beginning.
Visit the Goats on the Roof
You can’t visit Door County without seeing the famous goats grazing on the roof of Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant. Stop by for a photo, then head inside for delicious Swedish pancakes and other Scandinavian favorites.
Experience a Fish Boil
Part dinner, part entertainment, a Door County fish boil is a tradition unlike any other. Watch as the boil master cooks locally caught whitefish over an open fire before the dramatic “boil over” sends flames shooting into the air. It’s a meal and a show all in one.
